The Academy provides an enrichment program in Mathematics for high school students.
It caters for high school students in Years 10 and 11. Advanced Year 9 students who have completed the Noether or Polya Enrichment Series of the Mathematics Challenge are also encouraged to participate.
The program aims to broaden and deepen students' mathematical knowledge, to involve them in problem solving and to extend the range of their mathematical skills. The program includes mathematical puzzles and logic problems from mathematics competitions and topics such as graph theory, combinatorics, inequalities.
Each session comprises a short lecture and a workshop during which students work in groups on selected problems.
The Academy is held on a regular basis during the school terms. All sessions are held on Saturday morning from 10 - 11.45 am in the Mathematics Lecture Room 1.
Applications for 2009 are no longer accepted. Enrolments for the UWA Academy for Young Mathematicians in 2010 will begin at the end of January 2010.
