Phill Schultz Prize

This Phill Schultz prize is awarded to the high school student who has demonstrated the most outstanding performance in Mathematics Challenge activities such as Mathematical Olympiads and other competitions during the year.

The first recipient was Peter McNamara, a Year 11 student from Hale School in Perth. In 2000, Peter won gold medals at the Australian Mathematics Olympiad (AMO) and the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). His performances at the Australian Mathematics Competition, the Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad (APMO) and the Tournament of the Towns Competition were outstanding.

The Phill Schultz prize is presented at the closing presentation ceremony of the WA Junior Mathematics Olympiad (WAJO).

2008 winner

Jason Kong

Achievements include:

  • Scored 35 (Silver Medal) at the Australian Mathematics Olympiad - 1st in WA (2008)
  • Scored 82 (Prize) at the Australian Mathematics Competition - 2nd in Senior in WA (2008)
  • Scored 21 (HD) in thr Senior Mathematics Competition - 1st in WA (2008)

Jason competed in the APMO in 2008 and attended the School of Excellence as a Junior throughout 2008. He was invited as a Senior to the December School of Excellence - this is the Training Camp for the International Mathematics Olympiad.
