Our Mathematics Computing Laboratory (MCL) is used for laboratory classes and personal study.
The lab houses 128 Windows XP computers. All are networked to file servers, printers and have internet access.
Most units will require you to attend laboratory classes in the MCL, where you will use software packages for illustrative purposes or for the completion of assignment work.
Allocated practice and laboratory classes guarantee access unless the laboratory happens to be reserved for a special purpose such as a computer-based test.
At other times you may also use the laboratory if there is space.

Location and opening hours
The Mathematics Computer Lab is on the first floor of the Mathematics and Statistics building near the Reception area.
The laboratory is open from 8am until 6pm Monday to Friday to all UWA staff, students and official visitors.
Exceptions are the two week Christmas shutdown period and when the lab is exclusively booked for sessions such as exams and maintenance.
After-hours access is available to all UWA persons upon application, and expires at the end of each calendar year.
Laptop access
The lab has several seats allocated for laptop use which have vacant power points underneath the desk. The lab is covered by a wireless SNAP access point for devices with wireless network cards. We no longer cater for non-wireless network access of student devices.
The SNAP wireless network is operated by Information Technology Services. The School does not provide support for the SNAP network. Students should contact or visit the Student Internet Support Offier (SISO) in the Reid Library for more information and support.
Lab policies and conditions of use
- The MCL is available to all UWA staff, students and official visitors.
- Non-UWA persons are prohibited from using the MCL at any time unless booking arrangements have been made.
- Staff and visitors need to see the MCL Manager to arrange their accounts.
- Excessive noise, socialising, food and drink are not permitted in the MCL at any time.
- By using the MCL a person automatically accepts the conditions of use, agrees to be bound by them, and will be subject to any penalties that arise from any breaches of the conditions of Use.
- In particular, all MCL users should take note of the priority seating condition:

At all times seating must be vacated to (in order of priority):
- Users in officially booked sessions
- Students wishing to do course-related work for a Maths and Stats unit
- Students wishing to do course-related work for an Engineering unit.
Check timetable for current bookings.
Access may be revoked at any time and without warning if a user is found to have violated the conditions of use. Revoked accounts remain locked for a period or time and then the user has to see the Lab Administrator to request their account be unlocked.
Minimum lock out periods
- 1st violation: next weekday after locking
- 2nd violation: 7 days after locking
- 3rd violation: until lifted by the Head of School
Booking requests and charges
When the lab is not in use it can be booked by others by contacting Michael Juschke, telephone (+61 8) 6488 1362.
Free technical support will only be available between 8am-4.30pm on weekdays. Out of hours support can be arranged for a fee.
