These conditions are in addition to all other IT Regulations that apply at UWA.
General conditions
- Smoking is not permitted in the laboratory or anywhere in the building
- The laboratory must be kept tidy at all times
- Food and drinks are not permitted in the lab, including purchases from vending machines (water containers with a closable lid are exempt)
- Students are responsible for any equipment that is damaged or requires professional cleaning
Computers and software
- Unplugging or interfering with power cords, network, keyboard, mouse or monitor cables is prohibited
- Laptops may be connected only at designated laptop stations (see lab layout for location) or at an unused power socket
- Students must not give out their password or log others on under their username
- Students must not leave themselves logged in when leaving the lab
- Violators may have their computer access removed permanently
- Playing games is prohibited
- ‘Net surfing or downloading of material is restricted to your studies
- Students should be mindful of other users of the lab, in particular booked classes
- Excessive noise is not permitted
- Equipment and software within the lab are property of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, and are to be used exclusively within the lab
- Unless otherwise instructed, the equipment or software must not be removed from the lab
- All equipment faults should be reported immediately to a lab supervisor
Priority seating condition
At all times seating must be vacated to (in order of priority):
- Users in officially booked sessions
- Students wishing to do course-related work for a Maths and Stats unit
- Students wishing to do course-related work for any other ECM unit.
Check the MCL timetable for current bookings.
Suspension of Access
Access may be suspended at any time and without warning if a user is found to have violated the conditions of use. Suspended accounts remain locked until the user sees the MCL Administrator to have it re-instated AND the prescribed penalty has been met.
Penalties
The following conditions apply to most breaches of the Conditions of Use:
- 1st violation: account remains locked until at least next weekday
- 2nd violation: account remains locked for at least 7 days
- 3rd violation: account remains locked until students have seen the Faculty Manager. Unlocking is at the their discretion.
Accounts that have been suspended for the following reasons are immediately at the discretion of the Faculty Manager.
A person:-
- was responsible for the theft of, or willful physical damage to, any of the computing facilities
- has behaved abusive or threatening to other students or staff
- was in possession of and/or displayed inappropriate or illegal material
- was in possession of confidential information obtained improperly
- was responsible for the willful destruction of information
- was responsible for the deliberate interruption of normal services provided by the Laboratory
- removed, copied or destroyed (without permission) all or part of any disk or software product in the lab not his or her own
- knowingly allowed someone else to remove, copy or destroy (without permission) any software product in the Lab not his or her own
Please note that laboratory computers may be monitored remotely by the system administrator to ensure that users adhere to the conditions of use.
Any breach of these or any other conditions governing the use of the Laboratory facilities may result in suspension of access and/or disciplinary action being taken under University Statute 17, or criminal proceedings initiated as appropriate.
