Options

The new streamlined course structure introduced in 2012 offers current students more options.

Undergraduate options

Most students who begun their study in 2011 (or prior) will have chosen to continue studying their current course in 2012. However, you may be interested in transferring into one of the new courses.

  • The choice is personal and will depend on the course in which you are enrolled and the course into which you would like to transfer.
  • Contact the ECM Student Office to discuss your options.

Advanced standing (credit)

Upon transferring to one of the new courses you may be eligible to receive advanced standing, or 'credit', for your previous study. The amount of advanced standing will depend on the units you have already completed and the new course you are entering.

Postgraduate opportunities

Students who choose to start a professional qualification in the following areas in 2012 and beyond will need to obtain a postgraduate degree after completing their bachelor's degree:

  • architecture
  • audiology
  • dentistry
  • early childhood teaching
  • engineering
  • landscape architecture
  • law
  • medicine
  • music education
  • nursing
  • pharmacy
  • podiatric medicine
  • primary teaching
  • psychology
  • secondary teaching
  • social work

There is also a wide range of postgraduate options by coursework and research available in addition to those leading specifically to a professional qualification.

Options to transfer

If you are in the early stages of a combined degree course to obtain a professional qualification, such as Engineering / Commerce or Law / Arts, you may have the opportunity to transfer to one of the new undergraduate degrees with a view to studying your professional qualification as a postgraduate. Your request will be subject to approval by the University.

Contact the ECM Student Office to discuss your options.

Implications for professional graduates

If you enrolled prior to 2012 in a professional qualification as an undergraduate, such as landscape architecture or podiatric medicine, you may be wondering how you will compare with graduates of the new postgraduate professional degree courses.

UWA graduates are highly regarded and, given the demand for all our professional graduates, we do not expect you to have any difficulty in finding employment.

You are welcome to enquire about postgraduate courses to further or diversify your career opportunities.
